A Guide to Your Nantucket Holiday

There is nothing quite like the holiday season on Nantucket, from the cobblestone streets and holiday decor to the community decorated Christmas trees that line Main Street. At Great Point Properties, we enjoy getting involved in the spirit of the season. From the holiday events to enjoying time with Family and Friends the beauty of the island and closeness of the community shine during the holiday season. We have compiled our favorite holiday events in addition to helpful hints to navigating Nantucket during the season.

Making Memories:

Thanksgiving on Nantucket is a perfect gathering place for families to come together for the holiday. From the Turkey Plunge at Children’s Beach to the Holiday Tree lighting on Main Street, the weekend is full of events for the whole family.

In preparation for the day reserve your Turkey at Annye’s Whole Foods, offering 12 – 30-pound organic turkeys from Vermont. For more details on how to reserve Click Here.

For your Thanksgiving day side dishes check out the Nantucket Culinary Center, where Chef Greg offers classic holiday dishes as a perfect pairing for your turkey dinner.

Deck the halls and decorate with holiday trimmings from Moors End Farm. Pick out the perfect tree and accent pieces to create the perfect holiday atmosphere.

Laura Fletcher, Great Point Properties Agent:

“While Moors End Farm is a great place to visit in the summer for produce, local eggs, and fresh flowers, I particularly love when they transform into a winter wonderland.

A hand-painted sign greets you at the entrance, and an open farm stand adorned in vintage lights is home to handmade garland, bows, and wreaths. Just beyond is a big assortment of every shape, kind and size of the tree. The staff couldn’t be more helpful in making a fresh cut on the trunk and getting it on, or in your car.

If you’re looking for a nostalgic experience while supporting a local business, an afternoon at Moors End Farm provides a setting for what’s sure to be an annual holiday tradition.”

Alexa Coleman, Great Point Properties Agent enjoys the annual event.

“My favorite event of the Holiday season is the tree lighting ceremony the day after Thanksgiving. The event is such an exciting kick-off to the Holiday Season. It is nice to come together as a community and stand on Main Street and see Town bustling again. The energy is frenetic with loudspeakers, carolers singing and the countdown to the lighting of the tree in unison, it kind of reminds me of Whoville in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. It is a really special and romantic tradition.”

Carl Lindvall, Great Point Properties Agent, offered his take on Stroll Weekend and some of his favorite spots to enjoy dinner and cocktails.

“The cozier the better. I love having dinner at places that feel more storybook such as Le Languedoc at the downstairs bar, Oran Mor Bistro, or American Seasons. For cocktails, Nautilus and Club Car will both serve up a festive environment and amazing cocktails. My favorite stop during Stroll has to be Ventuno. The outdoor patio (with heat lamps) has a large crowd the entire day that is dressed up and having fun. If it is really cold, or you want a change of pace, you can walk inside to see Johnny B at the inside bar where you can smell the hot apple cider and sing carols with the other patrons. Such a fun weekend!”

With high demand and limited availability make sure to make your Stroll and Holiday dinner reservations in advance. Many of the restaurants reopen for the festive holiday weekends, a reason to enjoy your favorite spot before they close for the season.
