This compound was built and completed in May 2000. Driving down the rambling stone drive lined with island wildflowers and evergreen vegetation, one realizes that they are arriving at a very special, one of a kind property. Sitting gently atop of one the Island’s highest knolls, one feels an amazing sense of peacefulness as this property backs up to hundreds of acres of Nantucket conservation land and looks over the quiet moors and salt marsh to views of the Harbor to Great Point. The shingle-style house is tucked into the tall natural grasses and has approximately 15,000 square feet of living space. A pleasing mix of styles of covered porches and gabled dormers share a post and beam refined barn like interior. The compound includes a berry patch garden, pool and spa area, children’s play area, an apple orchard, a tennis court, a duck pond, a trickling stream to cross, a barn, a labyrinth, organic vegetable garden, and rose garden.
Floor Plans
From the vestibule one enters a breathtaking and dramatic vast great room area with 28’ high field-stone fireplace, a planked hemlock ceiling with antique beams and wide-plank oak floor. This room was built from a barn brought down from Canada. Off of the living room is a grand 20 x 40 screened in living area. The dining area sits within a widely bowed window scheme, which allows for views from the gracious lawn to over the moors and to the harbor beyond. An informal breakfast area is a step from the fully appointed custom kitchen made from wide plank oak. The focal point is the center island also made from wide plank oak, which has a single two and one half thick white marble counter top. Two large oak pantries off of the kitchen allow ample space for storage. From the kitchen one looks over to the informal sitting area with fireplace. This room is adjacent to an outside semi-circled patio with fireplace. Off the outside patio is a full grill station (10 burner Wolff range) built into the stonework. A side entry to the house leads to a laundry room and access to the over-sized two-car garage with in floor heating. Also located on the first level and behind the kitchen is a hallway, which includes a guest powder room and substantial home office-work station. The West wing features two fabulous guest suites. Large divided light glass panels throw beautiful light into the west wing hallway which has a spectacular and graciously curved free floating stairway that ascends from the lower level to the master suite.
