Edward's grandparents came to Nantucket in the 1920's, establishing a summering tradition for both his mother's and father's families. He broke tradition by moving to the island year round in the early 1970's. In the late 1970's, he started the Sanford Boat Company with his brother and produced 22 Alerion Class Sloops, many of which still sail Nantucket's waters. Edward's real estate career has spanned all facets of the industry. He learned carpentry, owned and managed commercial real estate and the beautiful cottages on Old North Wharf. After receiving a Graduate Degree in Business Administration from Columbia University, he received his real estate license in 1986. He worked for Island Properties, along with Greg McKechnie, until 2003 when he opened Sanford Real Estate. In 2008, he merged Sanford Real Estate with Great Point Properties. Edward has also been involved in a number of island non-profits including the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of Nantucket, and the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce. He has served on the Nantucket Zoning Board of Appeals, served as Chairman of the Nantucket Community Plan Steering Committee, and also Chaired the Mid-Island Area Plan Work Group. He loves to sail and play golf, and is a connoisseur of fine rums, a taste acquired from sailing through the Caribbean islands.

Alexa grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts and spent her summers on Nantucket.

She attended Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, and studied Political Science and International Relations, Spanish, and Media Studies, and was a four year honors student-athlete competing with the NCAA Division II Saint Michael’s women’s lacrosse team.

After graduation, Alexa spent the summer in Nantucket nannying and working in the hospitality industry. She moved back to Boston for one winter where she worked as a Placement Manager at an au pair agency. She quickly realized how much she missed the island and came back to Nantucket the next summer to intern at Great Point Properties. Under the guidance of broker Laura Fletcher, Alexa learned the ins and outs of Nantucket’s Real Estate. She joined our team as a full time agent in November 2015 and permanently made Nantucket her home. She has since immersed herself in the island's community. In 2015 she joined the Nantucket Student Lacrosse Board where she created a learn to play program for youth girls lacrosse. In 2016 she garnered enough youth interest and started a U-13 girls team.

Between her experience in hospitality and taking care of children, Alexa is knowledgable and experienced when it comes to activities and hot spots on the island no matter what your interests are.  Alexa brings a unique perspective on island living and vacationing to clients and specializes in market research and rental investments. She works alongside principal broker, Edward Sanford each month to produce our market reports. When she is not working Alexa enjoys running, yoga, traveling, skiing and visiting her family in the Boston and Providence areas.
