August 7, 2010 - The Rock Run - Coatue  8am 

The Rock Run is a team running event that stretches 50 miles across Nantucket. Race starts at 8 am sharp from Coatue.***(Transportation will be provided you are Children's Beach by 7:30 am!!!!) August 14, 2010  - BOSTON POPS on Jetties Beach
The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra will be performing again on Jetties Beach to benefit the Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Tickets are now limited to 8,000 to keep the size of the crowd in line with the beach capacity. Reserved tickets are now on sale online only. General admission tickets ($30/adults and $10/children 12 and under) go on sale by phone in July. 508-825-8181

August 15, 2010 - 38th Annual Opera House Cup Regatta 

The Opera House Cup Regatta was the first all- wooden, single-hulled classic boat regatta on the East Coast, and it attracts some of the finest sailboats in the country. For details, call 508-228-6600.

August 21, 2010 - 37th Annual Sandcastle and Sculpture Day - Jetties Beach 

A late-summer ritual for some, families and teams return year after year to vie for top honors. The rules are simple - be creative!!! Tools, building aids, ornaments and decorations may be used but are not supplied. Contestants are urged to work with biodegradable items and must take away any non-biodegradable items used. Pre-registration is necessary and should be completed at the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce office located at Zero Main St before noon on 8/20/2010.

Benefit the Nantucket Atheneum by taking a plunge in Nantucket’s harbor on Thanksgiving day. In its ninth year, the Cold Turkey Plunge attracts several hundred swimmers and over 800 spectators.
