Wauwinet Beaches

Known for its access to Great Point and Coatue, Wauwinet is the perfect escape for a secluded beach day equipped with fishing and picnics. Great Point is a large, undeveloped barrier beach at the tip of Nantucket, and houses the iconic Great Point Lighthouse. It is seven miles long, is popular with fishermen, and is one of the best places to see grey seals. Great Point is privately owned by the Trustees of Reservations and you must obtain a permit to drive on.

Tip: Great Point is not recommended for swimmers, as it is home to fish, seals, and often sharks. We recommend a day of fishing, relaxing, beach games, and picnicking if you decide to visit!
