Shawkemo is two to three miles from Town and boasts proximity and access to Nantucket Harbor. Meaning "middle field of land" in the language of Nantucket's natives, there are abundant trails and open land to explore. One of our favorites is the Shawkemo Highlands, a Nantucket Land Bank property, which offers stunning views of the Middle Moors and Nantucket Harbor. Also in the Shawkemo area, find the Masquetuck Reservation, a beautiful piece of conservation property offering incredible views of West Polpis Harbor. Only 13.5 acres in size, this is a great walk to take with children and is a favored location to search for arrowheads and other Native American artifacts.
