Edward Sanford

Edward Sanford

Edward’s grandparents came to Nantucket in the 1920’s, establishing a summering tradition for both his mother’s and father’s families. He broke tradition by moving to the island year-round in the early 1970’s. In the late 1970s, he started the Sanford Boat Company with his brother and produced 22 Alerion Class Sloops, many of which still sail Nantucket’s waters. Edward’s real estate career has spanned all facets of the industry. He learned carpentry, and owned and managed commercial real estate and the beautiful cottages on Old North Wharf. After receiving a Graduate Degree in Business Administration from Columbia University, he received his real estate license in 1986. He worked for Island Properties, along with Greg McKechnie, until 2003 when he opened Sanford Real Estate. In 2008, he merged Sanford Real Estate with Great Point Properties. Edward has also been involved in several island non-profits including the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of Nantucket, and the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce. He has served on the Nantucket Zoning Board of Appeals, served as Chairman of the Nantucket Community Plan Steering Committee, and also Chaired the Mid-Island Area Plan Work Group. He loves to sail and play golf and is a connoisseur of fine rum, a taste acquired from sailing through the Caribbean islands.
