End of Summer Bucket List

End of Summer Bucket List

08/16/2023

It’s that time of August when the end of summer is starting to feel closer and closer. As the sweet days of summer continue to pass us by we are reminded of all the things we want to do before it’s over! We have come up with a manageable bucket list for you and the family to start checking off. Make the most of your vacation whether you get to one or all of our end-of-summer must-dos, there’s something for everyone.

Sunset at Millie’s

Nothing beats a Madaket sunset, Millie’s food, and a margarita. It’s the ultimate summer evening that embodies the laidback Nantucket lifestyle.

Tip: Get there on time so you don’t miss the sunset! Walk-ins only (before 8 pm).

Lobster bake from Sayles

A lobster bake is a New England summer staple that must be checked off the list before the end of the summer. Ordering and pickup are made easy by Sayle's Seafood, so all you need to do is enjoy at home or on the beach! You get a taste of everything - each Lobster dinner is served with Clam Chowder, Corn on the Cob, Steamed Red Potatoes, Melted Butter & Lemon. View the menu for other Seafood Dinners.

Walk the Coast to Coast Trail

Discover Nantucket on foot through the Land Bank and Conservation Foundation trails. Starting in Sankaty from Hoicks Hollow, you will follow the trails to Settler’s Landing in Madaket. This trail totals 24.7 miles! Click here to view the trial map and learn more.

Venture out to Coatue

Cruise around the harbor to the beautiful remote beaches of Coatue. Enjoy a change of scenery as you tuck into one of the five points of Coatue surrounded by the Wildlife Refuge and rolling coastline. It's our favorite spot to anchor up and enjoy a beachside picnic.

Beach Cookout

It’s time to finally do the beach cookout you’ve been talking about all summer! Bring dinner and gather around the fire as the waves come in and out and the sun goes down. We recommend Eel Point or Monomoy Beach.

Here are our Cookout Essentials:

  • Beach Chairs

  • Beach towels

  • Warm layers

  • Firewood (can be found at the Stop & Shop)

  • Firestarter

  • S’mores supplies

  • Paper plates

  • Plastic cutlery

  • Bug spray

  • Flashlights

  • Garbage bags to clean up

Drive out to Great Point

Take an adventure out to Great Point for the day which is home to the iconic Great Point Lighthouse at the tip of the island. The beach is approximately 7 miles and requires a 4-wheel drive car and sticker. Visit here for more information.

Tip: read our Transportation Blog for additional information on renting a vehicle!

Juice Bar

Treat yourself to everyone’s favorite ice cream stop, and don’t forget the homemade waffle cones! Trust us, the line is worth the wait.

Tip: Have a late-summer birthday coming up? The Juice Bar can do same-day personalized ice cream cakes. Our office favorite is half-coffee half-chocolate.

Dreamland Drive-In Movie

The Dreamland’s drive-in has become a summer staple on the island. Cruise over to the big screen and watch under the stars. Visit the Dreamland website to book tickets in advance!
