Nantucket Safe Harbor for Animals

For the animal lovers out there, Nantucket’s animal hospital is a great place to volunteer. When they are accepting volunteer applications, NiSHA typically looks for people who are willing to foster animals, participate in shelter animal enrichment, and become members of the Pet Partners Therapy Team. Click here for more information!

PS - have questions about fostering? GPP Broker Tracy Cullinane recently fostered Taco, an 11-month-old Terrier mix!

Nantucket Student Lacrosse

“ACK Lax”, an organization loved by visitors and locals alike, promotes the sport of lacrosse through grade-level programs (grades 1-8) by teaching the fundamentals of the game, promoting sportsmanship, and creating a fun, active environment for Nantucket’s youth.

GPP Agents Ethan Ulmer and Alexa Coleman, and Principal Greg McKechnie, are proud to serve as coaches year after year.

Nantucket Cottage Hospital

There is no such thing as too many volunteers at the Nantucket Cottage Hospital. All helping hands are welcome, no matter your skills or experience. The hospital typically looks for volunteers willing to greet Emergency Department visitors, give directions, register patients, and support administrative staff. For those who wish to avoid a clinical setting, the Hospital Thrift Shop is always looking for volunteers in the summertime. Click here to learn more!

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a nationwide organization, dedicated to building homes for those in need. Nantucket’s branch of this organization is exceptional due to how difficult it can be to find affordable housing on the island. Hundreds of hands are needed to build these houses which is why volunteers are always welcome. Click here to learn more about how you can help make sure our island residents have a roof over their heads.

Looking to volunteer with a group of people? The GPP team recently painted two new Mid-Island homes, and it was a great team-building activity!

Warming Place

Now in its second season, the Warming Place offers overnight shelter and warm meals to those in need during the colder winter months. Hosted at various island churches, the Warming Place is open six days a week and is always on the lookout for volunteers to help with set up/clean up and meal preparation. Anyone looking to volunteer can sign up for a shift at this link.

Questions about volunteering? GPP Marketing Manager Ally Ulmer knows the ropes.

A Safe Place

A Safe Place is dedicated to providing free and confidential services for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence on Nantucket. The nonprofit offers several different volunteer positions. These positions include administrative work, outreach, court advocacy, and fundraising. They are also looking for safe home providers, people who can provide emergency shelter for abuse victims. Training is required for this role. Click here for more information.

Nantucket Boys and Girls Club

This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for those who are interested in teaching, coaching, and mentoring the island’s children. The Nantucket Boys & Girls Club is always looking for individuals and groups that are willing to volunteer. Click here to complete a volunteer application.

Want to learn more about getting involved? GPP Agent Alexa Coleman has served as the Co-Chair of the NBGC’s annual Summer Groove fundraiser.

Nantucket Food Pantry

In just a few short years, the Nantucket Food Pantry has delivered over 16,000 bags of groceries to 1,700 island residents in need. The organization has partnered with Sustainable Nantucket, Moors End Farm, and Bartlett’s Farm to provide families in need with fresh and locally grown produce. The Food Pantry is always looking for volunteers to help bag and deliver groceries. If you would like to help out, please fill out an application here.

Friends of Our Island Home
