What's Happening on ACK this Fall?
09/13/2024
Ahh...fall on Nantucket. Often referred to as "the local's summer" and magical for several reasons, our bustling island quiets down and its natural beauty is on full display with the foliage turning vibrant shades of orange, red, and gold. It’s a fantastic time for walks on the beach, where you can enjoy the crisp air and catch a stunning sunset (dare we say they are prettier than the summer ones?!).
We rounded up a few of our favorite fall happenings below:
SEPTEMBER
September 21 - 22: Nantucket Island Fair
September 26 - 29: The Nantucket Project
September 28: Cross Island Hike
OCTOBER

October 11 - 14: Cobblestones & Cranberries
October 13: Half Marathon

Not looking for pre-planned activities or want to explore Nantucket on your own? Here are our picks:
Wine & Dine: Fall is a great time to try out that restaurant you couldn't get into all summer. Check out fresh local fare like bay scallops and vegetables from local farms. It's a great way to sample the island's diverse culinary scene. Some favorite year-round spots are The Sea Grille (order the bacon-wrapped scallops and thank us later) and Brotherhood of Thieves. For a nightcap around a firepit, check out Tap Room or Sister Ship.
Sconset Bluff Walk: September is a great time for a scenic walk. The Sconset Bluff Walk offers stunning views of the coastline and historic homes. And if you're looking for a post-bluff meal, the Summer House is staying open through Columbus Day this year.
Whale Watching: September is still a good time for whale watching. Companies offer tours where you might see humpback whales, minke whales, and even dolphins. Check out our Surefire Guide for recommendations.
Get Involved: Fall on island is when many of our community-based fundraisers and events happen. Volunteer or participate in Race for Recovery, Nantucket Half Marathon, Run for Robin, and so many others!
Historic Sites and Museums: Explore the Nantucket Whaling Museum, the Nantucket Historical Association, and other historic sites. September’s cooler weather makes it a good time to dive into the island’s history, and most sites are walkable. Pick up a free walking tour map at the Whaling Museum, or better yet, ride The Wave for free through the fall.
Beaches and Outdoor Activities: Enjoy the once-crowded beaches like Surfside and Madaket (Millie's stays open through Columbus Day Weekend for all your taco and margarita needs). The weather is warm enough for outdoor activities, and there's finally time to let your dogs run free or host a bonfire - just clean up after yourself.
Art Exhibits and Gallery Walks: Nantucket has a vibrant art scene that takes advantage of the beautiful fall foliage. Look out for gallery shows and art exhibits in October, especially AAN's Wet Paint Weekend.
Sweet Treats: Fall on Nantucket means chocolate-covered cranberries and cranberry bark from Aunt Leah's Fudge, apple cider donuts from Downyflake, and apple crisp from Wicked Island Bakery. Looking to dine? Head ot Black Eyed Susan's for their famous pumpkin pancakes. Yum!
Getting Your Pumpkin Fix: Shop local and grab pumpkins, gourds, and seasonal flowers from Bartlett Farm and Moors End Farm. What about pumpkin beer? Check out Cisco Brewery's Pumple Drumpkin ale, and stay for live music and food trucks.
