Winter Fitness on Nantucket
01/10/2025
When the summer crowds leave and the island quiets down, Nantucket transforms into a peaceful winter retreat. But while the beaches may be quieter and the bike paths less traveled, staying active during the colder months is just as important. Winter fitness on Nantucket offers unique opportunities to embrace the island’s beauty, whether you prefer bundling up for brisk beach walks, exploring cozy indoor workouts, or trying seasonal activities like winter hiking, there’s no shortage of ways to stay energized all winter long:
1111 Nantucket | 3 W Creek Road: Interested in trying yoga? Every winter, you can redeem their one-week unlimited for just $35! Nothing beats the Nantucket cold like hot yoga.
Many of us at GPP enjoy their weekday 6pm Core Flow, the perfect after-work activity.
Nantucket Cycling & Fitness | 25 Youngs Way: A favorite for locals year-round, NCF has the best variety of class packages, ranging from monthly unlimited passes to special student and teacher discounts. A GPP favorite class is BURN, which incorporates kettlebells, medicine balls, dumbbells, and bodyweight movements.
Supta Yoga | 9 Amelia Drive: A calming, cozy, and meditative yoga studio for all levels. Keep an eye out for their $5 community classes all winter long! PS - check out Somatics by GPP Broker Liz Finlay.
Studio Nantucket | 23 Federal Street: Check out barre and reformer-x classes taught by GPP Marketing Manager Ally Ulmer!
Core | 1 North Beach Street: Visit our neighbors for small-group Pilates classes. Plus, stay after and check out their expansive retail shop - with great sales this time of year.
The Nantucket Hotel | 77 Easton Street: Enjoy everything from a large gym to a sauna, hot tub, and amazing class schedule featuring barre, pilates, yoga, and more. Plus, nonmembers get their first class free.
The Dance Space | 15 Teasdale Circle: Looking for a fun and different workout to try? TDS offers adult trampoline bounce classes, combined with weights and resistance training. They also offer a variety of packages and new member specials.
Outdoor Winter Workouts:
Beach Walks & Runs
Madaket Beach, Steps Beach, and Sconset Bluff Walk are beautiful and serene during the winter.
Bundle up, as the wind can be brisk, but the solitude and views are worth it.
Biking
While some bike trails may be snow-covered, Milestone Road and Polpis Road are generally maintained.
Fat-tire bikes are a great option for winter biking.
Hiking Trails
Squam Farm, Masquetuck Reservation, and Sanford Farm are peaceful and offer great opportunities to explore Nantucket’s natural beauty in winter.
Have your pup with you? Let them off-leash on Tupancy Links off Cliff Road (157 Cliff Road), or Sanford Farm off Madaket Road (118 Madaket Road).
Surfing & Cold-Water Swimming (for the brave!)
Some locals surf year-round in wetsuits, especially at Cisco Beach. If you’re not a surfer, you can pull your car right up to the beach and watch the surfers.
It's a GPP favorite to enjoy a winter sunset view at Cisco - get there around 4:15pm to snag a good parking spot!
See you at the beach, gym, or on the trails!
