Pup Friendly Places on Nantucket

By Greg McKechnie

From official puppy parades to the ones we see everyday exploring the island alongside their owners, Nantucket is full of dog lovers (and dog lovers are good people). For those of us not willing to let our furry friends miss out on the fun, it’s great to have a list of dog-friendly ideas in your backpocket that’ll keep you and your pooch adventuring through the summer.

Here are some places your four-legged friend will love. And so will you.

With a Bark Bar out front where you can tie up your pup and he or she can choose a water bowl sized just for them, Handlebar Cafe is a space for every member of the Nantucket community.

Hook your pup up in front and grab your morning coffee while knowing he or she is comfortable and taken care of.

A morning run at Sanford Farm with a furry friend for long distances or even just a nice Sunday stroll. Head out early with your pup and be treated to some beautiful sights as the sun rises here as you explore the 6 mile loop.

But bring a towel— somehow Jack can find a mud puddle out here on even the driest day.

When you’re up for drinks and don’t want to leave Fido at home, bring him or her to Cisco Brewers. You’ll both be making plenty of new friends. There’s nothing like having a Nantucket brew with your dog-pal at your side.

After beaches, trails, and drinks, take your dog over to The Dog Wash at 51 Nobadeer Farm Road for a cleaning.

This has also proved a great kid’s activity (no you do not wash the kids, but they can wash the dog and without soaking the house).

The season kicks off with Daffodil and the Daffodil Doggy Parade is always festive fun.

You and your pup can also do some good together– every August is one of Great Point Properties favorite events (so many of us in the office have dogs) of the year, Paws For A Cause: a doggy fashion show at Bartlett’s Farm Garden Center on August 2nd from 6-9 p.m.
