94 Main Street is a quintessential example of Nantucket’s centuries-old architectural heritage. Built in 1847, this elegant Federal-style residence is in the heart of Nantucket’s historic district and town. It originally served as the home of a distinguished whaling captain during the island’s financial boom brought by the whaling industry in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. 94 Main has been carefully preserved, maintaining its original period features, including wide-plank pine floors, paneled fireplaces, and hand-hewn beams. Its historical charm and central location have made it a beloved part of Nantucket town, embodying the island’s transition from a quiet whaling hub to a cherished summer destination. Today, 94 Main Street remains a private residence, admired for its unique architectural integrity, grand white columns, and location on one of the few remaining cobblestone roads.
