We are currently in the midst of the “shoulder season” here on Nantucket, a quieter time of the year that typically falls between late September and November. After the hustle and bustle of summer comes to an end, fall on the island sets in, with a special magic of its own. There are fewer crowds, beautiful autumn weather, and a deep sense of community. Not only is fall a picture-perfect time to be on Nantucket, but it’s also a great time for those looking to make real estate decisions on the island.

For All Island-Lovers

Fall on Nantucket is like a scene straight from a storybook - golden marsh grasses, cranberry bog harvests, brisk ocean air, and cozy evenings by the fire. For those on the island, here are some activities that showcase Nantucket's autumn charm:

  • Take a walk on one of the many Land Bank trails

    • Grab your waders and rakes for scalloping season, which runs from October 1st until March 31 (Wednesday's through Sunday's). By foot, head to any harbor access point just before low tide and try your luck: Monomoy, Fulling Mill, Pocomo, Polpis. Make sure you have your shellfish permit button! You can also choose to join a scalloping field trip, where waders and hand nets are provided for you.

  • Dine at your favorite restaurants
