Hummock Pond
Explore Hummock Pond!
Just east of Cisco Beach, Hummock Pond is perfect for kayaking, canoeing, or birdwatching and offers vast acres of conservation land that border much of its shoreline. Migrating birds arrive with the seasons, as do the tranquil and ever-changing hues of the surrounding flora and fauna. As Cisco’s peaceful neighbor, you can take in the sights and sounds of nature anywhere you are while being conveniently located to island favorites such as Cisco Brewery, Bartlett Farm, and 167 Raw. More than a mile long, the pond itself, which includes Head of Hummock Pond, extends from the middle of the western portion of Nantucket down to the ocean. Much of the real estate in this area offers privacy and tranquility, the neighborhood feel, and views of the pond.
Hummock Pond Attractions
Gardner Farm, owned by the Land Bank, is a 41-acre parcel that was farmed for much of the eighteen and nineteen hundreds. The trails begin off of Hummock Pond Road and are full of open fields, offering views of Hummock Pond. To keep exploring Nantucket's open space, the trails loop to Lost Farm Sanctuary and the Land Bank’s Millbrook Road property. You can also explore one of our favorite Nantucket Conservation Foundation properties, Sanford Farm and Ram Pasture, off Madaket Road. This property is 780 acres, and is best for walking, running, dog walking, and biking. The route boasts views of the ocean, North Head, and Hummock Pond, and well-marked trails. A historic barn is located near the middle of the property, a great place to rest and refuel. Also in the area, find the Maria Mitchell Association's Loines Observatory, built in 1968 and 2006, the two domes of the observatory are equipped with 8-inch and 24-inch telescopes, acting as a current research observatory and a public venue for astronomy programs. We might be biased, but we think Nantucket's beautiful starry nights are some of the best in the world, take advantage of this while visiting the island, and stop by the Loines Observatory!
